BMW i8 Spyder

BMW I8 Spyder
BMW i8 Spyder will actually be unveiled in China later in April, although the i8 and smaller i3 city car are in New York. The BMW i8 series combines an electric drive system with a standard combustion engine. BMW claims the hybrid can make zero-to-60 in less than five seconds while also maintaining 94 miles-per-gallon in the tank.

It's essentially a two-seat topless version of the BMW i8 which was introduced last year. It has a 131-horsepower electric motor powering the front wheels while a 223 horsepower gasoline engine turns the rear wheels. There is also topless version, the i8 Spyder, in the works. Expect more information to come out once the NYIAS starts next week. Look here BMW i8 actions video

The plug-in i8 Concept Spyder can, BMW claims, go from zero to 62 miles per hour in 5 seconds. It gets about 94 miles per gallon, according to the automaker. Two hybrid vehicles - the compact BMW i3 and the sporty i8 - have been teased in the run-up to the New York International Auto Show next week. Though still in the concept phase, BMW is intent on having the i8 production-ready soon. These are some of the latest images of the performance hybrid BMW calls "emotional, dynamic, efficient."
